Fairways Supported Living praised at Gold Coast ACQ conference

Fairways Supported Living has received stellar recognition among industry peers at the recent 2011 Gold Coast Aged Care Queensland Conference – Serviced Integrated Housing into the 21st Century.

The Fairways Supported Living community at Tweed Heads was the highlight of case studies conducted by aged care industry expert James Underwood at the conference held at the Seaworld Resort last week.

Fairways Project Manager and Supported Living Group Director, Gregg Hewitt said the accolades were indicative of the supported living communities’ status as the best of its kind in Queensland.

“Such praise by our peers confirms the Fairways success story in delivering an exciting, innovative alternative to aged care not only in Queensland, but nationally,” said Hewitt.

“This recognition by a high profile industry expert such as James Underwood, who has been involved in commencing and expanding residential aged care initiatives across the retirement sector over the past 28 years is outstanding; and coincides with a record sales achievement of 12 sales in one month, by one consultant, valued at close to $4 million at Fairways.

“Seniors are embracing the Fairways Supported Living point of difference!”

James Underwood, Director of the major aged care consultancy firm of James Underwood & Associates said Fairways Supported Living was selected as the key case study for his presentation at the ACQ conference because it was a successful example of melding the best attributes of retirement village living with government-funded home care.

“The aged care sector is trying to work out how to bring flexible, progressively increasing levels of care to persons living satisfying, independent lives in retirement village units,” said Underwood.

“The sector would do well to look at how it is being done now at Fairways.

“Like a duck swimming: serene on the top, and working flat out below the surface, the SLP Group has worked like the furies to create a product that meets the desires of our ageing Australians.

“24-hour care and seamless government-funded home care in an attractive, independent apartment at the Coast.”

“Fairways was selected as a case study because it was the most successful integrated housing village we found in our research.”

Underwood said Fairways Supported Living delivered what it promised, and supported the view that retirement village operators should consider trying harder to bring in home care and 24-hour care as a way of helping seniors to achieve their desired care outcomes.

He said Fairways was showing the industry how it could be done, and, unsurprisingly had achieved excellent sales in a tough housing market.
